Līlayā – playfully
If human existence can be likened to a movie that we watch, then our souls are the actors, and our bodies and life experiences are the characters that the “actors” play. Like Tom Hanks playing the character of “Charles Noland”, the poor fella deserted on an island in the “Cast Away”.
Our existence is filled with great joy and also great suffering. Just like a good movie. If the plot of a movie only involves the hero starting off with everything you could wish for and only gets better and better from then on, no one would want to watch the movie.
It is the fall and the struggle that connects us to the hero. It is the hero “getting back on our feet” and overcoming the challenges that inspires and motivates us.
The “dips” in our experiences helps us appreciate the “peaks”. Both are equally important in connecting us to the full range of human experience.
And how does astrology come in? I like to think that astrology is the script for the character that we play in this life. Getting an astrology reading is like an actor having a discussion with the movie director or playwright to understand the character being played. Who is this character, and what are his motivations? What are his dips and peaks in life experience? When the actor has fully “digested” and “imbibe” the character, only then can he fully and whole-heartedly BE the character. Only then can the portrayal be real and natural.
Similarly, through astrology, when we understand the roles our souls are here to play in life, we can fully and whole-heartedly BE the person that we are, warts and all. We can fully enjoy the happiness and pleasures, and also keenly feel the pains and sorrows.
And, through it all, remember that these life experiences belong to the character that our souls are playing, but are not of our souls. This distinction gives us the clarity of mind to maintain an “observer” perspective of our experiences. No matter how sweet or bitter the experience, when the movie ends, the experience ends too, for the actor / soul. Until the next movie.
If human existence can be likened to a movie.
