Mars enters Cancer – 20 Oct 2024

Mars will enter sidereal Cancer on 20 Oct 2024. Mars is one of the slower moving planet, and take on average 2 months to move through one zodiac sign.

This time though, Mars will stay in the sign of sidereal Cancer for about 5 months in total, as this transit coincides with its retrogression. This retrogression will also take Mars back into Gemini for period before re-entering Cancer.

The condition of a planet changes depending on the zodiac sign it is in

Before we dive into what it means for Mars to be in Cancer, let’s first look at the condition of a planet changes depending on the zodiac sign that it is in.

If a planet is a person, then the zodiac sign this planet is in can be viewed as the physical house that this planet/person is visiting.

Planet in its own sign

A planet is in his own sign is like a person being in his own home. The planet is familiar and comfortable in this place. There is food and drinks, entertainment and a bed to rest in when it is tired. The planet is therefore in a happy and content mood.

Within the context of a birth chart, a planet in his own sign is able to manifest its positive qualities and acts favourably for the native. The area of life ruled by this planet also gives rewards and satisfaction.

Planet in its sign of exaltation

A planet in his sign of exaltation is like an honoured guest visiting someone else’s home. There is great honour conferred to the planet due to its achievements or rank. Even though this home is not familiar to the planet itself, but its hosts go to great length to ensure its comfort, such as bringing out the finest china or opening that special bottle of wine.

Within the context of a birth chart, an exalted planet can indicate the attainment of great achievements and becoming a well-known figure within that field, especially if this planet is associated with the first house or first lord.

Planet in its sign of debility

A planet’s sign of debility is opposite to his sign of exaltation. Therefore, instead of being treated like an honoured guest, a planet in his sign of debility is treated more like a servant that does menial work and is often overlooked or ignored. Every planet (and person) has innate gifts, but when debilitated, these gifts do not have the appropriate outlet to showcase themselves.

Within the context of a birth chart, the placement of a debilitated planet indicates the area of life where there is dissatisfaction and a sense of being burdened for the native. The efforts put in by the native tend to be overlooked and not given due recognition.

Mars in Cancer

Coming back to the main topic of this post – Mars in Cancer.

Cancer is the sign of debility for Mars, where it feels burdened and unappreciated. Mars is the warrior and has lots of energy, eager to move, to fight or compete. However, Cancer is place of comfort, nourishment and rest.

When Mars is in Cancer, the energy and the will to fight and compete has no outlet, as everyone else in the home of Cancer is resting and enjoying themselves in comfort.

Mars has to hold his energy in, even though he wants to expend it. Over time, this energy builds up and gets released in a forceful, uncontrolled, and often undesirable manner.

Mars in Cancer can indicate the propensity for great outbursts of anger, and at times, accompanied by violence.

During this transit of Cancer, there can be situations that lead to a build up of energy within that has no outlet.

For example, on a physical level, if you are someone who runs regularly, you may encounter rainy periods that stops you from doing so.

On the emotional level, you may encounter situations that brings you anger and frustration, but have to hold it in to avoid escalating the tension.

In either case, it is important to find alternative means and outlets for the energy within to flow out, so as to be in balance, both energetically and also emotionally. In contrast, suppressing it, or trying to keep the energy under wraps will only set it up for an uncontrolled release later on.

Just as flowing water is more conducive for life than a stagnant pool, we also need to be in flow, physically, energetically and emotionally, to be healthy.
